Needed: Volunteer Captains with Pontoon Boat
by adminFoL/Water Quality Seeking Volunteer Captains with Boat
Friends of the Lake (FOL), Water Quality (WQ) is sponsoring a study of Lake Linganore biology/ecology this summer. The study will be completed by a Chesapeake Conservation Corps volunteer/University of Maryland graduate as a Capstone project under Hood College’s Center for Coastal and Watershed Studies. Using Hood’s similar 2013 limited study as a template, this research will gather and evaluate changes in predominant algae species, algae nutrient levels and depth profiles of temperature, DO, clarity and other parameters at several different locations. The study is expected to provide valuable insights on lake health and baseline conditions ahead of the planned lake dredging and will supplement other data being collected at the lake, surrounding ponds and tributaries by FOL/WQ, Frederick County, and Maryland Dept. of Environment (MDE). Data collection is tentatively scheduled to begin in late April and continue into August 2016 on a bi-weekly basis (twice per month), with each sampling event probably lasting about 3 hours. FOL/WQ is seeking Captain(s) Volunteers with boats who can volunteer one or more times during the summer to support this effort.
