Trail Guide

  1. Meadows Trail - Paved, Stroller accessible.  Starts at McFadden Park and winds through the Meadows village.  Ends at Fox Meadow Circle. 
        Easy.
        Parking - 15 cars
     
  2. Lake Merle Trail - Dirt, fairly flat.  Starts at Lake Merle beach trail post and follows the east woods shoreline.  Good view of farm across the lake.  Ends at trail post on Eaglehead Drive at the dam.  (Access to west shore of lake is limited). 
        Easy. 
        Parking - 10 cars.
     
  3. West Winds Trail - Grassy, dirt.  Starts at end of Cherry Tree Court and follow power line easement down hill to Ben's Branch Creek.  Forks left at creek to picturesque hemlock grove (fallen tree across path); or forks to right and follows trail to Linganore Creek.  10 minutes to hemlocks or 15 minutes to Linganore Creek. 
        Moderate.
        Parking - 3 cars.
     
  4. Lake Anita Louise Trail - Paved, grassy, dirt, hilly.  Starts at trail post on Pinehurst Drive as paved, stroller accessible and passes by farm pond. Connects with Pinehurst Lake Trail at Lake Linganore. 
        Easy/Moderate.
        Parking: 10 cars.
     
  5. Indian Caves Trail - Dirt, hilly.  Starts at Boyer's Mill Road and follows north shoreline of Lake Linganore to large rock outcropping known as Indian Caves.  At caves, turns right, crosses creek on Eagle Scout bridge, follows steep trail up cliffs to Balmoral power line easement.  Proceeds down  easement, turns left, follows trail along north side of lake.  Or, at caves, goes straight following creek, turns left, goes over low bridge, continues to Meadows mailboxes on the left. 
        Easy/Moderate. 
        No parking.
     
  6. Pinehurst Lake Trail - Dirt/flat.  Starts at Nightingale Beach, proceeds under Boyer's Mill bridge, follows south shoreline of Lake Linganore, past Lake Anita Louse Trail, ending at an area of huge rocks and hemlocks. 
        Easy. 
        Parking - 20 cars.
     
  7. Nightingale Lake Trail - Dirt, rocky, hilly.  Starts at Nightingale Beach, goes downstream towards dam.  After approximately 5 minutes of walking in the woods, starts up steep hill to old Meadows Road roadbed.  Follows roadbed to sewer easement. Follows sewer easement and crosses stream to right.  Follows trail along south side of Lake Linganore to dam. 
        Difficult. 
        Parking - 20 cars.
     
  8. Aspen Trail - Dirt, rocky, hilly.  Starts at Linganore Dam, follows steep trail paralleling Eaglehead Drive.  At top of hill, road bed forks left or right.  Either fork has scenic lake view. 
        Moderate. 
        Parking - 10 cars.
     
  9. Lake Trail - Grassy, dirt, concrete walkway, flat.  Stars at dam, follows north lake shoreline.  Goes by trail post for Audubon Lake Access Trail, after which there is a nice log bench with a lake view.  At major inlet, trail turns left and leaves lake shore, proceeds across North Shore Way to  return to lake shore.  Follows lake past Coldstream Beach onto concrete esplanade.  At end of esplanade trail turns right, ending at Boyer's Mill Road near bridge.  Links to Petticord Path Trail at end of esplanade and links to Indian Caves Trail at end (across Boyer's Mill Road).
        Easy. 
        Parking - 8 cars.
     
  10. Audubon Lake Access Trail - Dirt, muddy.  Starts at trail post on Eaglehead Drive to join Lake Trail at trail post near canoe racks.  At halfway point, side trail connects up steep hill (with steps) to Accipiter Drive. 
        Moderate. 
        No Parking.
     
  11. Summerfield Trail - Paved, stroller accessible.  Starts at Deer Crossing Elementary School, turns left on Finn Drive, Right on Sawyer Road, left on Mississippi Lane and right onto path past tot lot.  Follows path to Finn Drive.  Right on Finn Drive to Douglas Avenue, left on Douglas Avenue, past Watson Court left onto path on right.  Path ends at Deer Crossing Elementary School. 
        Easy. 
        Parking - 15 cars.
     
  12. Balmoral Trail - Dirt, rocky, hilly.  Starts at Balmoral Village bulletin board and follows first right off service road, down steep meandering trail to lake.   Follow pink ribbons.  Trail passes by two old stone house formations and beautiful rock outcrop.  Approximately 45 minutes to second foundation.  This foundation features a beautifully built stone chimney that is protected and preserved "forever" in the land deed. 
        Difficult. 
        Parking - 4 cars.
     
  13. Peddicord Path Trail - Dirt, gravel, hilly.  Starts at end of Peddicord Path and joins Lake Trail at beginning of concrete esplanade. 
        Easy. 
        Parking - 3 cars.

SPECIAL NOTES: 
Trails 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 10, 12 which are marked in RED on the map indicate that the trial goes through private property.  the Trailblazers Committee asked  for permission from the owners, so please stay on the trail and respect the owner's property.

CAUTION:
Hunters may be active in the fall.  Wear proper footwear. Trails classified as "Difficult" require sturdy shoes or boots.
