General Guidelines for Satellite Dishes

Adopted 9/18/02

In all cases regarding satellite dishes and antennas, the ECC is guided by the Federal Communications Commission rule known as the Over-the-Air Reception Devices Rule concerning governmental and non-governmental restrictions on a person’s ability to receive video programming signals from direct broadcast satellites (DBS), multi-channel multipoint distribution (wireless cable) providers (MMDS), and television broadcast stations (TVBS). Without questions the federal law prevails. In cases where safety is an issue, the ECC may make the decision on the location of the device. The ECC recommends that the device be placed in the most inconspicuous place commensurate with good reception.
